Instagram’s Bolt is Here . . . Kind Of

With Bolt, Facebook-owned Instagram has created a competitor to Snapchat. Will Bolt make Evan Spiegel rue the day he turned down Facebook’s three billion dollar offer to buy?

Instagram’s Bolt hasn’t hit this hemisphere yet, but that hasn’t stopped us from checking it out. Here are the details you need to be ready for the US launch:

1. Much like Snapchat, Bolt allows you to send self-destructing photos and videos to individual contacts. After viewing your Bolt, friends can respond back with a picture, video or message.

2. Bolt prides itself on its quick, one-tap messaging ability. Just tap on a friend’s face at the bottom of the screen to send a picture or long-press to send a video.

3. Having second thoughts? Shake your phone to cancel your message should you become stricken with Bolt-ers Remorse.

4. Bolt is set up is for individual interactions only. So if you want to share similar pictures or videos with multiple friends you’ll have to re-shoot for each friend. We kind of enjoy menage-a-chats, but we’re willing to give this one-on-one thing a shot.

How about you?

Oscar’s Best + Worst Dressed

Topping our Best Dressed List:

Stacey Keibler in Naeem Khan: Best dress and best arm candy of the night

Naomi Watts in Armani Prive: Digging the sexy cyborg vibe! Plus her hair and makeup were perfection.

Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive: This oozed Old Hollywood glamour, and the copper tones of the dress picked up her hair beautifully.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior: The biggest dress on the carpet for the biggest night of her life…makes sense.

And…for the bad news

Topping our Worst Dressed List:

Reese Witherspoon in Louis Vuitton: Apparently she let her 13 year old daughter pick her dress, and it shows. This is way too juvenile and it lacked the fluidity of movement that makes the gowns appear to float down the carpet.

Jennifer Aniston in Valentino: Kinda looks like Jen smoked a spliff in the limo, but it was her dress that got the munchies…and swallowed her whole.

Naomie Harris in Michael Badger: This takes the term “slit up to there” to a new high.

Kristin Chenoweth in Tony Ward: Without fail, at every awards show someone dresses like a cast member of the Icecapades. Sorry, Kristin Chenoweth, this time it was your turn.

Resort ’13 Essentials

I’m jetting off to Hawaii in a few days for a much needed vacation – and praying for 10 days of sun, (low cal?) frozen cocktails and shark-free surfing. Packing is usually a very last-minute activity for me, but I’m trying to turn over a new leaf for 2013 and get organized ahead of time so that our trip can start out on a relaxing note. Here’s what I’m not leaving home without:

1. I don’t like to bring a lot of jewelry on trips, but I always try to pack one piece that will go with everything. This season, it’s Liv Haley’s ‘Jaime’ pendant in pink opal.

2. Ancient Greek Sandals’ ‘Iris’ beaded sandals will work by day at the pool and after dark, peeking out from under a maxi dress.

3. These 3.1 Phillip Lim aviator sunglasses have the coolest grey smoke design on the frames.

4. I love the color and the cut-outs on this bikini from Australian label Zimmerman.

5. Obviously a tropical vacay calls for tons of sunscreen, and Lancer Skincare’s Vitamin C Antioxidant Sunscreen is always in my beach bag. It does double duty to protect against the sun’s harsh rays with micronized zinc oxide while also delivering a dose of anti-aging antioxidants to the skin.
